9/6 (12:00) Baylor @ SMU -2.5
Fan Duel, 1 Unit to win 1.8 Units
Baylor looked all over the place at home against Auburn in their season opener. I expect them to struggle on the road against another mobile QB in Kevin Jennings.
Baylor 48 @ SMU 45 LOSS
SMU was up 14 with 7 minutes left and lost on OT. Terrible beat to start the day and it wasn't the last one. SMU had a chance to win and cover at the end of regulation but missed a long field goal and then missed another in the second overtime. Awful.
9/6 (3:30) Fresno State +2.5 @ Oregon State
Caesars, 1 Unit to win 1.9 Units
I'm fading Oregon State this week after backing them last week. Malik Murphy looked mediocre last week against a what on paper was supposed to be a weak Cal defense. Oregon State's offensive line was terrible in run blocking and protection, and they are now down a key stater on the O-line. I'm on the Bulldogs.
Fresno State 36 @ Oregon State 27 WIN
A late pick-6 got the cover and win for Fresno State. Oregon State outgained Fresno State 528-318 in yards and Oregon State was also 0-4 on two-point conversions. Good Win.
9/6 (3:30) Oklahoma State @ Oregon -27.5
Bet MGM, w/ Profit Boost 1 Unit to win 1.9 Units
There has been a lot of talk in the media between these 2 coaches about the financial situations for each football progrum. Long story short, OK St HC Gundy called out Oregon and HC Lanning's NIL funds they receive from Phil Knight and Nike. I expect Lanning to lay down the law this weekend like Oregon did last year against Colorado. Also, it doesn't help OK St's situation being down their starter at QB. I'll take Oregon by 4 touchdowns for the second week in a row.
Oklahoma State 3 @ Oregon 69 WIN
Oregon did exactly what we thought they would. Pummeled Oklahoma State from start to finish, all gas no brakes.
9/6 (7:01) Morehead State @ Illinois State -24.5
Fan Duel, 1 Unit to win 1.9 Units
FCS Dusk? Morehead State just had a tough outing against a D2 Allen last week (38-31W), while Illinois State played Oklahoma tough most of the game last week. I'll bet Illinois State, let them pound the piss out of Morehead State and not think twice.
Morehead State 13 @ Illinois State 41 WIN
FCS Dusk? Yes, FCS Dusk.
9/6 (7:05) Western Kentucky +7.5 @ Toledo
Fan Duel, 1 Unit to win 1.8 Units
I am riding the QB Maverick McIvor train. He has been lights out for WKU the first 2 games. Also, I think these two teams are closer than a 7.5-point spread. I don't hate the over either here, Toledo has a solid QB as well in Tucker Gleason.
Western Kentucky 21 @ Toledo 45 LOSS
An early turnover by WKU killed this game right away. Toledo scored early and went on a run led by their actual run game. Toledo had over 300 rushing yards. This one was over early.
9/6 (7:30) Georgia Southern @ USC -27.5
Bet Rivers, 1 Unit to win 1.7 Units
The previous week Georgia Southern looked lost on defense against Fresno State. Even with Georgia Southern staying in California for the week, I don't expect that to help them with all the miss tackles they had the week before. Trojans to cover.
Georgia Southern 20 @ USC 59 WIN
This one was never really in doubt, USC had a couple mistakes, but they were clearly the better team by a wide margin. Easy win.
9/6 (7:30) Michigan @ Oklahoma 1st Half Total 23.5 UNDER
Fan Duel, w/ 50% Boost .5 Unit to win 1.1 Units
I think this going to be a slug fest between two great defenses. Both QBs can ball, but this week will not be the week they ball. I'm on 1st half under; I'd consider full game under as well, maybe even OU first half spread.
Michigan 0 @ Oklahoma 14 Total 14 WIN
This game went to about as expected. Defense held the day, and Freshman QB Bryce Underwood struggled for Michigan. Nobody should have expected a great game in his first road start especially in Norman, OK.
9/6 (7:35) Southern Illinois @ Purdue -19.5
Fan Duel, 1 Unit to win 1.9 Units
I know I'm crazy right? Backing Purdue two weeks in a row is wild, but I believe they can get a cover against this FCS team that they shutout in '22 and '24. I will take the Boilermakers by 20.
Southern Illinois 17 @ Purdue 34 LOSS
A Southern Illinois field goal halfway through the 4th quarter put the game 17-34. Purdue got the ball on the next possession and marched all the way down the field to S. Illinois 14-yard line with 1 minute left. On 4th and 1 instead of kicking a field goal, Purdue decided to go for it instead of taking the points and giving us the cover. They got stuffed for a loss on the play and so went the cover. Another Brutal beat.
9/6 (8:00) UCLA @ UNLV Total 53.5 OVER
Fan Duel, 1 Unit to win 1.9 Units
I like both QB's enough in this game to get points (UCLA's Nico and UNLV's Colandrea) and I don't really care for either team's defense or their ability to stop passing attacks. I'm on the Over.
UCLA 23 @ UNLV 30 Total 53 LOSS
UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava and his dad should be arrested for fraud. The guy was average at Tennessee and now he is struggling at UCLA. Under a minute left Nico throws an interception in the redzone that cost his team the game and everyone else the over. A third brutal losson the day for the email.
9/6 (9:00) Tulsa -3.5 @ New Mexico State
Fanatics, 1 Unit to win 1.9 Units
I'm riding with Tulsa and QB Kirk Francis again. Tulsa should be able to handle New Mexico by at least 4 points. New Mexico struggled with Bryant in a win in week 1 (19-3). I expect them to have even more trouble with an improved Tulsa team from last year.
Tulsa 14 @ New Mexico State 21 LOSS
Why not end the night with the team we were backing, Tulsa, losing their starting QB, Kirk Francis, to a nasty concussion. Tulsa wasn't getting much going before he got hurt. When he left the game, the back-up didn't play bad (Baylor Hayes, 13/16 129yrds 1td 1int). He threw a touchdown with about 7 minutes to take the lead by a point, but New Mexico State came back and won. This one isn't as tough a beat, it seemed like Tulsa wasn't going to cover no matter who was at QB.
Bonus Parlay
Tulsa ML, Marshall ML, North Texas ML, Fresno State ML
Fan Duel, +438, .5 Unit to win 2.7 Units
Tulas LOSS, Marshall LOSS, North Texas WIN, Fresno State WIN
Bonus Parlay: LOSS *
Tulsa loss was tough, but Marshall losing to Missouri State was appalling.
